Starting your co-parenting journey: a calm first 30 days
The first month of co-parenting sets the tone for everything that follows. Keep it simple, keep it kind, and keep the focus on your child.
Agree on a single channel
Pick one place for co-parenting conversations and stick to it. Mixing WhatsApp, SMS and email creates confusion and conflict. A dedicated app keeps records clean and tone calmer.
Build a basic weekly rhythm
Children thrive on predictability. In week one, agree on pickup/drop-off times, school routines and weekend plans — even if it's temporary. You can refine later.
Write down expenses from day one
Don't rely on memory. Log every shared expense — school fees, doctor visits, clothes — with the date and who paid. This avoids painful conversations three months in.
Be boring on purpose
Short, factual messages. No emotional language. "Pickup at 5pm Friday, confirmed" is better than a paragraph. Boring is the goal.
